Features of the Program
  • Earn college credit in advanced-level content courses
    taught exclusively in Chinese. Sample courses may include:
    • Chinese Medicine
    • Chinese Film and Civilization
    • Modern Chinese History
    • Economics of Social Change in China
    • Bridging Science, Technology, and Humanities in
      China
    • Urban Life and Culture in Premodern China
    • Landscapes and Environments in China
    • Chinese Language for Professional Purposes
    • Law and the Global Environment
  • Apply Mandarin language skills in real-life contexts and
    through hands-on experiential internships
  • Travel to Nanjing University for a year-long immersion
    experience studying in your major and other fields of
    interest through courses taught in Chinese
  • Explore future career opportunities through individual
    career counseling and networking with potential
    employers
Eligibility Requirements
  • Demonstrated proficiency in intermediate- to advanced-level Mandarin
  • Completion of academic cultural literacy prerequisites, including the study of literary Chinese and at least one other college-level course related to China
  • Commitment to the goal of achieving superior-level Chinese language proficiency for future career opportunities
  • GPA of 3.25 or higher (or equivalent evidence of outstanding academic performance) and a high commitment to personal and educational growth
  • Strong interest in belonging to a college community focused on learning and sharing Chinese culture

Scholarship Opportunities
Summer 2008 Scholarships
Highly qualified students may be eligible for pre-Flagship scholarships for an intensive summer language program in China during summer 2008.
Fall 2008-Spring 2009
Generous scholarships are available for Flagship Scholars (beginning fall 2008). U.S. citizenship or U.S. permanent residency is required.
